Messmer Now an Enabler

Dear community,
Mark Messmer betrayed our best interests and his oath to uphold the Constitution by supporting the “Big Beautiful Bill.” In doing so, he made deep cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, removing more than 26,000 people in our region — his congressional district — from access to health care.
If you don’t depend on these services, you have a family member, friend, co-worker or neighbor who does. And most of us are one car crash or unexpected medical diagnosis away from needing the support Medicare and Medicaid provides. These services benefit not only individuals, they keep our entire community healthier, more productive, and a better place to live.
The Trump regime’s budget is an ugly bill seeking to undermine democracy while hurting everyday people from all walks of life. It:
- Ties judge’s hands: Takes away the courts’ power to hold the government accountable for ignoring court orders — even orders from the Supreme Court!
- Blocks environmental challenges: Prevents the courts from stopping drilling, mining, or development, no matter the environmental cost. For our community, that means we can’t challenge the imminent carbon capture project that could harm us for decades.
- Bans regulation of AI: Imposes a 10-year ban on any state or local law to regulate artificial intelligence — including use for misinformation in political campaigns or potentially unprecedented and invasive abuses of individual privacy.
- Weakens the federal government: Turns new federal hires into at-will employees. Federal protections exist so workers can uphold their oath to the Constitution without fear of losing their jobs for doing the right thing. The bill advances Project 2025’s takeover of our government with Trump regime loyalists.
We wrote to you in March when Ana first lost her federal job, warning that there was an unfolding hostile takeover of our government. That takeover has only gained force, and Mark Messmer is now one of its enablers. Call his office and tell him Wabash Valley residents deserve a government that works for, not against them.
